I’m a lazy guy, who is in shape. I’m in shape because I run. I run because I get to hang with Jocko and Echo. Of all the podcasts I listen to, this is the only one I set myself rules for: I don’t get to listen to it whilst sitting on the couch, or chilling at the beach. It’s not a soothing, relaxing, amusing podcast. This podcast is a reward that I allow myself to indulge in only when I run. You don’t feel the miles burning when you’re hanging with Jocko and Echo. You don’t feel the cold, or the rain, or the sore muscles or blisters. All you feel is life. You get to soak in the wisdom from warriors both ancient and modern, from those who faced hardships beyond anything you can imagine, and who either found the strength to get through them, or who found the strength to hold the line, knowing it would mean the end. You get to hear how to get the most of this finite, fleeting life, and how to look at even the darkest scenarios, and say “good.” Often I’ll finish my workout with a new perspective on a problem that’s been blocking me, or a new attitude, or a new idea for my career development. Or simply just with a greater appreciation for the time I have left. I’m getting after it in all areas of my life, for the first time in my life, and this podcast is a huge reason for that. Bottom line: Sure, I could stay inside, stay dry. But then I don’t get to hang with Jocko and Echo. I’m a lazy guy, who is in shape. I’m in shape because I run. I run because I get to hang with Jocko and Echo.
